Yellow Mookaite and Citrine Earrings
$ 47.35
Description Attractive deep yellow Mookaite gems with dark dendritic inclusions, give a glimpse into their history of creation. Although the ranges 100 miles inland from Carnarvon in Western Australia are dry now, it was once the seafloor, as Mookaite formed from the fossilized remains of microscopic silica-based marine organisms called radiolaria that lived in the area 145-120 million years ago. Over millions of years, the skeletal remains accumulated and over more millions of years were compressed and silicified by groundwater carrying silica and other minerals, transforming into a durable, quartz-rich rock known as Windalia Radiolarite – the geological formation where mookaite is exclusively found. The dark dendritic inclusions are black magnanese and developed during the rock’s formation. Dendritic inclusions are relatively rare, so we are lucky that these stones have them! Citrine accents add a little sparkle and light to the rich yellow Mookaite. Approx 3.8cm long. Materials: mookaite, citrine, sterling silver.
